Kota Sentosa State assemblyman Wilfred Yap rebuked DAP Sarawak\u2019s response to his earlier statement on healthcare, saying it revealed the party\u2019s lack of understanding about governance and federal responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDAP\u2019s latest statement by Michael Kong once again exposes how out of touch DAP Sarawak has become with the fundamental realities of governance and federal responsibility,\u201d Yap said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He described DAP\u2019s reply as defensive and filled with political rhetoric instead of substance. \u201cInstead of addressing the core issue who bears the constitutional and fiscal responsibility for healthcare Michael Kong resorted to name-calling and personal attacks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap said that healthcare remains under federal jurisdiction. \u201cSarawak contributes billions in taxes annually to the national coffers, and therefore it is only fair that the Federal Government fulfills its duty to provide adequate healthcare infrastructure and manpower for the people of Sarawak,\u201d he said, adding that DAP should demand accountability from Putrajaya instead of shifting the burden onto the state government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He dismissed Kong\u2019s comparison between AirBorneo and state healthcare as misleading. \u201cAirBorneo is a commercial initiative designed to boost regional connectivity and stimulate economic activity. Healthcare, however, is a public service governed by federal law, requiring federal licensing, staffing, and long-term financial support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap said the Sarawak Government is already taking responsible and practical steps to strengthen the healthcare system through the Sarawak Public Health Master Plan 2050. \u201cThis Master Plan is a structured, sustainable, and data-driven roadmap to strengthen our public health system without duplicating federal roles or wasting state funds,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government remains focused on strengthening healthcare delivery through federal-state collaboration, infrastructure upgrades, and community-level health initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDAP Sarawak should stop playing politics with healthcare. If they are sincere about improving the system, they should first pressure their counterparts in the Federal Government to deliver the funding, hospitals, and medical staff that Sarawak rightfully deserves,\u201d Yap said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
