SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Chairman Nicholas Wung has called for greater emphasis on preventive healthcare and effective use of federal health funds to benefit Sarawakians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the \u201cTogether for Health: A Community Health Carnival\u201d jointly organised by SUPP Kuching Branch, Timberland Medical Centre and JKKK Jalan Rock\/Bampfylde, Wung said the recent national budget allocation reflects a growing focus on healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom the 2026 Federal Budget announced two days ago, the national health allocation has increased by RM1.2 billion to RM46.5 billion. While we welcome this, we hope the funds will be effectively utilised to benefit Sarawak and its people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the health carnival supports the government\u2019s health priorities by offering 23 types of free health screenings and consultations for all age groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese include basic checks such as blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and dental care, as well as specialised screenings like breast and endocrine assessments, HPV tests, bone density checks and skin examinations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wung also expressed his condolences over the recent death of a four-year-old child in Samarahan due to influenza complications, describing it as a reminder of the importance of early detection and preventive care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis tragedy reminds us how important early detection, preventive care and community health education are for protecting our families, especially our children and vulnerable groups,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged the public to make full use of the free screenings, consultations and health education provided at the carnival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEarly detection saves lives. Identifying health risks such as high blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol enables timely medical intervention and reduces the risk of severe illness,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wung also expressed appreciation to Timberland Medical Centre for their strong support and generosity in co-organising the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThank you for making health a priority for Sarawak,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was officiated by Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
