The reopening of Miri\u2019s Selesa Pacific Hospital marks a significant milestone in Sarawak\u2019s continuous efforts over the past 30 years to strengthen both its public and private healthcare systems, said Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the reopening represents more than just a brand revival but also a continuation of the spirit and dedication of Sarawak\u2019s healthcare professionals who have played a vital role in the state\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis hospital, first established 30 years ago, has now been revitalised. Thirty years later, we return here at a time that is truly fitting for Sarawak\u2019s growth,\u201d he said when officiating the reopening ceremony on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Sim noted that since its establishment, the hospital has welcomed over 11,000 newborns and has long been an integral part of providing quality healthcare to the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that Sarawak\u2019s healthcare progress has greatly benefited from strong collaboration between the public and private sectors, a partnership that continues to serve as a crucial foundation in addressing challenges such as limited resources and workforce shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Sim also commended Sarawak\u2019s medical personnel for their unwavering dedication and excellence despite operating with limited resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAccording to national standards, Sarawak still faces a 45 percent shortage of hospital beds and a 54 percent shortage of doctors. This highlights the urgent need to strengthen Sarawak\u2019s healthcare capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is not because Sarawak has not been working hard, but because the system still requires greater attention and support from the federal government,\u201d he added, urging the federal authorities to allocate more funds for healthcare under the implementation of the Health White Paper to ensure Sarawak\u2019s health development keeps pace with national progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present at the ceremony were Minister of Transport and Senadin Assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Piasau Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Senator Lau Hui Yew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
