A delegation from the Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia (JMG) recently conducted a site visit to the landslide area at Kampung Haji Wahid, carrying out a comprehensive evaluation of slope safety and landslide risks using aerial reconnaissance technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak and Piasau assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew invited to join the team on-site together with department officials, experts, and technical personnel said the visit aimed to gain a detailed understanding of the slope and soil conditions, and to obtain professional input on the area\u2019s geological suitability for residential use and overall community safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the assessment team, multiple factors contributed to the landslide, including geological structures, groundwater flow, and long-term changes in climate and rainfall. They also engaged with relevant government agencies to discuss the best mitigation measures to protect residents and reduce future landslide risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting expressed his gratitude to the team members who travelled from Peninsular Malaysia to conduct the assessment in Miri, praising their commitment to using advanced aerial technology and scientific methods. \u201cI am encouraged to see the team carrying out their investigation with such professionalism. Their findings will provide a crucial basis for developing future disaster-prevention measures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that once the assessment is completed, a formal report will be submitted to the government and local authorities to serve as a reference for more targeted and effective actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting stressed that community safety remains the government\u2019s top priority. He urged residents to immediately report any signs of soil movement, cracks, or unusual ground conditions to local authorities or relevant agencies so that preventive action can be taken promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also thanked the village committee and local residents for their cooperation with the experts, noting that only through close collaboration between the government, professionals, and the community can long-term residential safety be ensured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
