Kota Sentosa State assemblyman Wilfred Yap has rebutted remarks by Miri MP Chiew Choon Man on Petronas\u2019s oil and gas revenues, stressing that Sarawak is demanding fairness and transparency, not charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chiew had dismissed claims that Petronas retains 95 per cent of Sarawak\u2019s oil and gas revenue, saying most of the income goes into operational costs and risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response, Yap questioned how Petronas could remain one of the largest contributors to the federal budget if profit margins were as slim as 10 to 15 per cent. He urged Petronas to allow independent auditors or the Sarawak Government to review its accounts. \u201cIf Petronas has nothing to hide, disclosure will only strengthen trust,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap added that risks are not borne by Petronas alone, but also by Sarawak, which faces environmental, economic, and social impacts while its resources fuel federal coffers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stressed that Sarawak\u2019s claim to a fairer share of oil and gas revenue is based on law, including the Oil Mining Ordinance 1958, the Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016, and the Malaysia Agreement 1963.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
