Kota Sentosa State assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin has voiced his opposition to the RM100 cash handout announced by the Prime Minister, arguing that such measures fail to address the core challenges faced by Malaysians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI do not support the RM100 cash handout,\u201d he said, adding that while he understands the intention to offer some relief amid rising living costs, the approach is neither impactful nor sustainable in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRM100 may bring temporary comfort, but it does little to address deeper issues like stagnant incomes, job insecurity, and skill mismatches in our economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap urged the federal government to shift its focus from \u201cgiving a fish for a day\u201d to \u201cteaching Malaysians how to fish,\u201d stressing that the rakyat need more than token assistance\u2014they need opportunities to improve their skills, earn better incomes, and become self-reliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He cited Singapore\u2019s investment in upskilling, digital empowerment, and employment matching as a model, saying Malaysia should emulate such long-term strategies to empower its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInstead of normalising handouts, we should channel resources into strengthening TVET, improving access to quality digital education, expanding job placement programmes, and supporting entrepreneurship, especially among the B40 and youth,\u201d Yap added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
