Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the first off-site green hydrogen station in Sarawak, produced at Darul Hana, is now undergoing testing at the second PETROS Multifuel Station in Batu Kawa, which offers petrol, EV charging, and hydrogen refuelling facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe station is expected to open soon, pending final paperwork clearance from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Kuala Lumpur,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Sim noted that SEDC Energy (SEDCE) is leading the development of Sarawak\u2019s hydrogen economy by establishing essential hydrogen refuelling points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese stations may not be profit-making at the moment, but they are necessary for SEDCE\u2019s pilot initiatives and operational improvements,\u201d he said, adding that hydrogen-powered vehicles are currently limited to commercial use under pilot projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharing his experience with a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, Dr Sim said, \u201cIt took just three minutes to refuel my Toyota Mirai with 2kg of hydrogen. The car\u2019s 5kg tank can travel up to 700km.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that the Toyota Mirai was one of several units presented to the Sarawak Premier and Deputy Premiers by UMW Toyota as a gesture of appreciation for Sarawak\u2019s strong push for green energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHydrogen fuel-cell vehicles that use green hydrogen emit only water vapour as exhaust, unlike conventional vehicles that release carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide \u2014 gases that contribute significantly to climate change,\u201d Dr Sim said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also expressed appreciation to SEDC Energy and Petronas\u2019s Lestari H2Gaas team for their briefing and updates on Sarawak\u2019s hydrogen initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
