Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman Cr Tan Kai has dismissed allegations by Mr Michael Kong, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, over the condition of road access and waste collection services at Lot 895, Jalan Kung Phin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued, Tan Kai clarified that infrastructure upgrades, including road works, are subject to technical evaluations, land ownership status, and availability of funding. He said some portions of the road mentioned are situated on private land, which legally restricts the Council from using assessment rate funds for upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe understand residents\u2019 concerns, but under existing regulations, MPP cannot use public funds to upgrade roads on private property,\u201d Tan Kai explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to claims of double standards, Tan Kai described the accusation as \u201cuntrue and misleading.\u201d He pointed out that in 2023, Batu Kitang assemblyman YB Lo Khere Chiang had successfully secured nearly RM1 million under the Projek Rakyat initiative to unseal and upgrade several roads, with MPP acting as the implementing agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also noted that similar improvements have taken place in Batu Kawa, where the assemblyman actively channels his ADUN allocation to enhance infrastructure in the constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tan Kai expressed disappointment that instead of engaging the Council through proper channels, YB Chong\u2019s special assistant had chosen to politicise the matter. He emphasised that both Batu Kitang and Batu Kawa fall within the Stampin parliamentary constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWith an annual allocation of RM4.2 million totalling over RM10 million in the past three years the MP should be working with the Council to improve infrastructure instead of making baseless claims,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tan Kai urged opposition representatives to prioritise the people\u2019s needs and collaborate with local authorities to deliver effective services, warning that political rhetoric without action does little to resolve on-the-ground issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
