The \u2018Keknyalang\u2019 charity event held in conjunction with Sarawak Day drew a crowd of over 700 people at Boulevard Shopping Mall Miri on Tuesday, featuring a multicultural cake-sharing programme, the first of its kind in Sarawak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organised by the Persatuan Prihatin Masyarakat Miri (PPMM), the event was officiated by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, who represented Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, Ting lauded the caring and generous spirit of the Miri community, describing the city as \u201cfull of love,\u201d and encouraged more people, especially the younger generation, to step forward and volunteer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGiving is a form of happiness. Every act of helping others brings joy and satisfaction to oneself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Piasau assemblyman also stressed the importance of youth as agents of change and contributors to Sarawak\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSarawak needs youth who are willing to come forward, serve their communities and spread positivity. Those who give selflessly should be recognised and supported,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event made its mark by collecting a total of 503 cakes, donated by sponsors from within Sarawak and beyond including Peninsular Malaysia, Brunei, Kuching, Sibu and Bintulu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 200 individuals from special needs groups were also celebrated along with their families in a warm, inclusive atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present were Miri City Mayor and Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
