The Bulatan Park Extension is set to undergo further enhancement as part of an ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Shin Yang Group, in collaboration with local artist Aries Kong, also known as Jagung, and his creative team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a press conference on Monday, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew expressed appreciation for the Group\u2019s contributions and shared updates on the park\u2019s transformation. Shin Yang Group has commissioned mural artwork at the skatepark and will soon extend the effort to the basketball court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese creative elements are more than just art; they reflect the vibrant spirit of Miri and promote a sense of community ownership of our public spaces,\u201d said Ting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He extended gratitude on behalf of Mayor Adam Yii, Miri City Council, and the local community to Shin Yang Group and Datuk James Ling for their continued dedication to improving public amenities in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative began in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, when Ting allocated RM1 million under the N73 Piasau RTP 2020 for upgrades to Bulatan Park. The budget included RM300,000 for the children\u2019s playground and outdoor fitness equipment, RM300,000 for lighting, park furniture, and the jogging track, and RM400,000 to extend the park and utilise the adjacent open land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He shared that during a site visit, he noticed an underutilised and overgrown area that included an abandoned futsal court, a rundown toilet, and state land. He voiced concern that, if left unattended, the area could pose safety risks or be developed into something unsuitable for the park\u2019s surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was during this period that Datuk James Ling offered to collaborate with Miri City Council, taking on the beautification and transformation of the park under Shin Yang Group\u2019s CSR programme. Since then, the partnership has grown into a significant public-private effort in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under RTP 2022, said Ting, an additional RM600,000 was allocated to construct the Velosolutions Pump Track, a professionally designed course for cyclists of all levels. It is the first of its kind in Malaysia and has already drawn attention from regional cycling communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For RTP 2025, another RM420,000 has been set aside to construct a roof structure for the basketball court, further improving the recreational experience at the park.With the addition of a skatepark, a nearly completed botanical garden, and future upgrades to the basketball court, Bulatan Park is steadily transforming into a multi-generational hub for recreation and wellness, ” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ting encouraged more companies to take part in CSR projects by adopting parks and public facilities, which play a vital role in creating inclusive, safe, and sustainable community spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
