Sarawak has reached \u2018endemic\u2019 by living with covid 19 due to the extraordinary efforts in vaccination which started in June this year, said Local Government and Housing minister, Dato\u2019 Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian. He said this is what Singapore and the United Kingdom had adopted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Compared with the rest of Malaysia, Sarawak has a surge in the number of cases of Delta variants, but as a huge population has been vaccinated, deaths in Sarawak actually decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said some 29% of Sarawakians are below 18, but Sarawak wanted to first vaccinate 16-17 years old, then 12-15 years as Pfizer has been approved by NPRA for both age groups as soon as possible. Eventually, he said they would probably vaccinate those between three to 11 years year but this need National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency( NPRA)needs to give approval soon to save lives. Sarawak has reached over 82 percent of double dose vaccination to adults while those who received one dose is over 90 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Sim who is also the advisor to Sarawak Disaster Management committee (SDMC) said there is no need to panic with number of new cases post vaccination era but need to remain alert so we can slow the transmission so as not to overwhelm our health care facilities, hospitals beds & Intenisve care unit (ICU)as well as stretching our medical frontliners to maximum who are burnt up and exhausted. He also warned the people against fake news which causes fear and anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
