One of the conditions is to have all the workers of the eatery to have at least one dose of vaccine. Presently, there are 1,508 workers from 240 eateries have been vaccinated with at least one dose. For those eateries workers who are still not vaccinated, they can contact Puan Juraila at 0197216684 at Miri City Council to register for priority vaccination, said Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang.

Yii said in order to ensure that eateries do not become potential clusters, the SOP to maintain MySejahtera scanning, temperature taking, maintaining social distancing, face masks and at 50% capacity at all time has to be strictly observed. Any failure to comply with the SOP will incur the penalty of RM 1,500. Repeated failure to comply may incur 14 days closure, and to be followed by revocation of licence.

“And if the non compliance of SOP leading to creation of a cluster, then the place has to be closed for 14 days, deep cleaning will have to be done, and all the costs for swab tests of all the workers and deep cleaning will have to be borne by the operator. In other words, non compliance of SOP will incur heavy penalties to the offenders, especially if it resulted in creating a cluster. Miri, together with the whole of Sarawak, has done well generally in flattening the curve for the past couple of weeks. This is the result of the MCO imposed since May 28th, increased rate of vaccination of the eligible people, and more importantly, it is also because of the full cooperation from the public,” he said.

He believed that it was with cooperations that the situation is under control. With the opening up of more business sectors under the Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan, he added that the public is reminded that we must not let our guards down, especially in view of the more virulent variants like Delta variant. While we welcome the opening up of more business sectors to revive our economy, we have to be mindful that this has to be done in an orderly manner so as not to jeopardize the efforts to stop the spread of COVID 19.

“We still have to put up with the various restrictions and controls. In other words, we still have to continue to make sacrifices to ensure no new spikes happening. I am sure we can do it together.” he said.

In line with SDMC directive, eateries in Miri are allowed to have dine in with conditions starting today, July 16th.
