SUPP secretary General, Datuk Sebastian Ting said SUPP send their condolences to the Deputy Chief of Sarawak, Tan Sri Dr James Masing, who lost two close relatives due to the coronavirus.
Tan Sri James Masing\u2019s younger brother and sister-in-law passed away at Kapit Hospital due to Covid-19 recently.
Ting said COVID-19 epidemic has so far claimed the lives of more than 300 Sarawakians.
“We understand the feelings of Sarawakians who have lost their loves ones and their families. We are with them all the time and pray for them. In order to prevent more Sarawakians from losing their lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope that the COVID-19 vaccination plan currently being implemented can be advanced as soon as possible to ensure that more and more Sarawakians are vaccinated, ” he said.
He added that data from many countries in the world have proved that after people are vaccinated against Covid-19 , the chance of infection, severe symptoms and even death is greatly reduced.
In view of this, Ting reckoned that the most urgent task is to vaccinate Sarawakians as soon as possible to create a herd immunity.
From his understanding, Ting added state governments and private hospitals can purchase COVID-19 vaccines on their own, including those produced by China National Pharmaceutical Group and Moderna vaccines in the United States, as long as the relevant vaccines are obtained by the World Health Organization (WHO) Recognized and approved by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).
“The federal government should have allowed state governments and private hospitals to purchase vaccines on their own since last year to speed up the implementation of the vaccination plan. It is better to announce it late than not to announce it. We hope that the federal government will speed up the approval process in this regard without any delay. After all, this is a matter of vital importance, ” he said.
From feedbacks from the public, Ting said some people\u2019s vaccination appointment location from the MySejahtera app was in West Malaysia, causing confusion. Although this is a rare case, he hoped that the authorities should correct it immediately to avoid unnecessary delay in the vaccination drive.
In fact, he pointed out, relying solely on the MySejahtera system to register is not entirely suitable for Sarawak, especially some people in rural areas do not have smart phones, or do not know how to operate smart phones, and some areas have insufficient network coverage and cannot access the Internet. Some people may not continue to check up even if they register successfully, and may miss the appointment time for vaccination.
The vast majority of people have been waiting for the vaccination for a long time, and they are eagerly looking forward to the vaccination as soon as possible, so that they can feel more at ease.
“The most important thing is to get people vaccinated, not to register. It is understood that China has a mobile bus team that allows people to be vaccinated on the spot in various places. This is a quick and direct way to allow people to vaccinate directly without having to go through layers of registration procedures and waiting.
