Schools within Orange zone should also be considered for closure & replaced by online class until it turns yellow or green. Foo strongly believes that such measures ought to be implemented for the safety of our young children, teenagers & teachers.

Foo stated that he has been receiving calls from the parents, teachers & principals, raising concerns of & the appropriateness of physical class at this critical time in view of the rising number of covid-19 cases in Sarawak especially in red zone area such as Kuching.

“Some parents even questioned me, why Parliament is not open whereas schools are allowed to open? Is it because the lives of the YB are more precious and important but not the students and teachers? On top of that, almost all YBs have received or completed doses of covid-19 vaccination. The government should boost public confidence by having parliamentary session to prove vaccines effectiveness to the people.”

“Indeed, I was taken aback and made speechless by question of such when it was put to me.”

This might be one of the main reasons of public outcry for closure of schools in red zone areas, Foo stressed.

Foo also stated that Sarawak has recorded the highest if not the second highest number of daily COVID-19 cases in the whole of Malaysia. There were also numerous & continuing reported cases and clusters coming from school premises ever since the school opened in March.

Foo therefore urges SDMC to seriously take into account the above mentioned reasonings & public concerns in an effort to mitigate the rise of COVID-19 before everything is too late & out of control.

Foo strongly believes that the current situation requires drastic and prompt actions to be taken by the Sarawak government in order to lower the number of COVID-19 cases.
