Piasau State Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting said he has heard of good news which indicated that Shell is looking for a new office in Miri that can accommodate at least a thousand employees. There is information that some employees from other regional offices may be transferred to Miri too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is great news for Miri, an oil and gas hub since 1910. We welcome the planned relocation and expansion of the Miri office. This will increase the population and spending capacity of Miri, and bring another round of economic growth for city. Obviously the supporting industries and local employment will benefit tremendously. The local population and economy will undoubtedly benefit from this decision. The social, cultural , entertainment, sport and food & beverages facilities will expand and improve to meet the lifestyle and demands of an international community and working population. The private sector has a big part to play help achieve this, and will definitely do so. We have to engage all parties to achieve this progress, ” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ting stated that the state government and local authority will provide strong support to help facilitate an efficient and smooth establishment of the new office and he will give Shell his 100% support and will do all that is necessary to help them on matters that require government approval and assistance so that the company and its employees can move into the new Miri office and homes expediently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
