The shortages became acute during the outbreak of the covid19 which stipulated the requirements of the standard operating procedure eg social distancing. <br> <br>Due to the serious shortage of classrooms at SK Sibu Jaya, students sometimes were forced to take classes in the corridors. The system of rotational teachinh in classes was  implemented resulting in students not having the opportunity to take classes every day. This affects the quality of education.<br> <br>Wong said SMK Sibu Jaya was also facing serious classroom problems. Some science labs and workshops were forced to be converted into classrooms, otherwise students had to take turns to attend classes too. <br> <br>SJKC Thian Hua requested for an indoor auditorium. The school building was also facing water leakages during the rainy days.<br> <br>According to Wong, residents of Sibu Jaya had long asked for an additional primary school and a secondary school.  The Education Office in Sibu had also twice recommended the establishment of a primary school and a secondary school in Sibu Jaya under the Tenth Malaysia Plan (2010-2015) and the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (2016-2020) to solve the problem of rapid increment in student population.  <br> <br>However, he said, the recommendations were not implemented.  The Education Office Sibu later also requested the construction of these two schools in the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025) and asked Wong Ching Yong to help respond to the relevant authorities during a meeting held on 2 September 2020.<br> <br>Wong Ching Yong and a group of Sibu community leaders  met Deputy Minister of Education YB Dato Dr Mah Hang Soon in Kuala Lumpur on last month. They submitted the relevant documents about the two schools to him.<br> <br>During Chief Minister Abang Jo meeting in Sibu, Wong Ching Yong together with Dato Sri Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian forwarded all the relevant documents to him this month.
