How many people have fallen victim to financial fraud because they did\u00a0not read the fine print ?<\/p>\n

The “fine print” usually includes contract terms and conditions,\u00a0disclosures or other important information that is not included in the\u00a0main body of a document, but in footnotes or a supplemental document\u00a0like an explanatory note in the recent bill amendment.<\/p>\n

The explanatory note and the financial implications note accompanying\u00a0the controversial Article 1(2) Bill to amend the Federal Constitution\u00a0may not seem as important as The\u00a0 Bill itself but I urge everyone to\u00a0read the fine print more carefully, especially the last line on the\u00a0explanatory statement and the line under financial Implications.<\/p>\n

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT<\/p>\n

This Bill seeks to amend the Federal Constitution.\u00a02. Clause 2 of this Bill seeks to substitute Clause (2) of Article 1\u00a0of the Federation Constitution to specify all the constituent States\u00a0of the Federation by restoring, with modifications, the position of\u00a0Clause (2) of Article 1 of the Federation Constitution during the\u00a0formation of Malaysia in 1963. The amendment is made in line with the\u00a0spirit of Malaysia Agreement concluded in 1963. It satisfies the\u00a0aspiration and hope of the State Governments of Sabah and Sarawak, and\u00a0all people of Sabah and Sarawak. *This amendment does not in any way,\u00a0alter the functions of the Federal and State Governments under the\u00a0concept of federalism.*<\/p>\n

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS<\/p>\n

*THIS Bill will involve the Government in extra financial expenditure\u00a0the amount of which cannot at present be ascertained.*<\/p>\n

This Bill, Sabahans and Sarawakians, is going to cost more money, the\u00a0amount of which cannot at present be confirmed. Sounds like a lot of\u00a0money, if you ask me.<\/p>\n

Reading and understanding the fine print is essential when entering\u00a0into an agreement. It often contains information that the issuer does\u00a0not want to call to the recipient’s attention, but that is essential\u00a0for the recipient to know.<\/p>\n

Tun Dr Mahathir and LGE have said that Malaysia has a debt of a\u00a0trillion\u00a0 dollars.<\/p>\n

If the price of equal status means that you have to shoulder 50 % of\u00a0this one trillion dollar debt, do you want Sarawak MPs to sign on the\u00a0dotted line?<\/p>\n

Haven\u2019t we contributed enough to the national coffers with tens of\u00a0billions of Ringgit from our oil and gas for the last 55 years?<\/p>\n

I agree with Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and support her\u00a0call on the federal government to defer the proposed amendment to\u00a0allow for more detailed discussions to be carried out.<\/p>\n
