MP Stampin Chong Chieng Jen and his PH government should just stick to\u00a0their original promises to firstly honour MA63 and pass it through\u00a0parliament. Honour MA63 like what PH\u00a0 had preached and promised during\u00a0GE14.<\/p>\n

Once Malaya honours MA63, the amendment to Article 1(2), including any\u00a0other amendments\u00a0 is naturally just one of the requirements to\u00a0reinstate our equal status so as to comply with MA63.<\/p>\n

If we amend only Article1(2) now without first honouring MA63, we are\u00a0digging our own grave as there will be more constitution to be amended\u00a0and when will we ever finish amending everything?<\/p>\n

Is this a delay tactic to dupe Sarawak for umpteen more years or until\u00a0our oil runs out? Meanwhile, will Sarawak continue to contribute Rm250\u00a0million worth of oil and gas per\u00a0 to Malaysia while getting\u00a0comparatively \u2018next to nothing\u2019 in return even after this latest\u00a0amendment which should supposedly give us \u2018equal status\u2019?<\/p>\n

Over the past 55 years, the federal constitution has been amended more\u00a0than 400 times as mentioned by Sabah activist Encik Azaimain.<\/p>\n

The way Tun Dr. Mahathir and his Pakatan Harapan government is going\u00a0about restoring our rights, if that is indeed their honest intention,\u00a0it will take ten, twenty or more years to complete and along the way,\u00a0history will be forgotten and the generations after us will miss out\u00a0on this and that and we will be back to square one. The original\u00a0intent of MA63 will be eroded and Sarawakians and future generations\u00a0of Sarawakians will never get our rights back.<\/p>\n

It is\u00a0 wiser to insist on the honouring of MA63 first in Parliament to\u00a0honour, respect and to comply religiously to all the clauses under\u00a0MA63. That is the spirit of an agreement.<\/p>\n

We want to see tabled through parliament a repeal of the Petroleum\u00a0Development Act 1974,\u00a0 a repeal of the Sea Territorial Act 2012 and\u00a0documented ensurance that Sabah and Sarawak will have equal\u00a0representation of seats compared to Malaya. MA63 is after all an\u00a0international agreement registered by the UK government on 21st\u00a0September,1970 making it a United Nations treaty. Why is there no\u00a0respect for a UN treaty? If Malaya refuses to comply with MA63, the\u00a0agreement is nullified and Sarawak regains her independence.<\/p>\n

The plundering of our resources, the poverty of our state, the brain\u00a0drain and the underdevelopment of Sabah and Sarawak are the resultant\u00a0effects of what these 400 over amendments have done to us. Our\u00a0petroleum rights were signed away without the approval of the State\u00a0Legislative Assembly because of one of these 400 amendments.<\/p>\n

It is despicable what has been done to Sabah and Sarawak and even more\u00a0so because it is done under the guise of \u2018doing good\u2019 for the people.\u00a0What is the point of an amendment to the constitution if it is only to\u00a0facilitate Federal to take monies from us?<\/p>\n

YB\u00a0 Chong asks why GPS MPs are not in support of the latest amendment\u00a0to Article1(2). My question to him is \u2018Why is he, as a Sarawakian\u00a0supporting this amendment?\u2019 Is there really a need to bulldoze this\u00a0amendment through and will Sarawak be sold out again?<\/p>\n

Chong even had the cheek to question us , GPS’s silence on our stand\u00a0and Yii in his press statement had tried to placate us by saying that\u00a0\u2018actually no MPs have seen it\u2019 before the first reading. This is not\u00a0just a water resources, social services or tax assessment bill. For a\u00a0bill or a document of such paramount significance, do you ask your\u00a0clients to sign on the dotted line when both you, the lawyer and your\u00a0client have not even seen a draft?<\/p>\n

Is Chong trying to play \u2018hero\u2019 but in actuality is really letting\u00a0Sarawakians down again with empty promises? We will not vote for any\u00a0amendments that might further rob us of our rights. This generation\u00a0has suffered enough from what has been denied us.<\/p>\n

PH Sarawak has said that supporting this Article 1(2) amendment is the\u00a0first step GPS must take. This is so wrong if it is a futile step or\u00a0worse, the first step towards involving Sarawak in extra astronomical\u00a0federal \u2018government expenditures the amount at which cannot be\u00a0ascertain\u2019.<\/p>\n

We must be vigilant and responsible enough to make sure we are taking\u00a0the right step in the right direction. It may be a long road ahead for\u00a0Sarawak to see justice done but this is also for the generations of\u00a0Sarawakians who come after us. Whatever we decide now will directly\u00a0impact upon our children and the generations that come after them.<\/p>\n
