{"id":23288,"date":"2018-11-15T15:54:09","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T07:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=23288"},"modified":"2018-11-15T20:32:24","modified_gmt":"2018-11-15T12:32:24","slug":"michael-tiang-calls-to-mp-chong-to-hold-workshops-for-merchants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=23288","title":{"rendered":"Michael Tiang calls to MP Chong to hold workshops for merchants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUPP Youth Chief, Michael Tiang took to task the confusion created by\u00a0Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs for his\u00a0oppressive investigation in the Price Hike and Anti-profiteering Act\u00a02011 on merchants.<\/p>\n<p>Tiang said today, the SUPP youth are concerned with the price hike of\u00a0goods around 5 to 10% despite the Ministry&#8217;s assurance of prices going\u00a0down.<\/p>\n<p>Starting early\u00a0 next year, he said the merchants and the people will\u00a0face the price hike adding more to their burden due to the weakening\u00a0of the ringgit, the economy downturn and an increase of the minimal\u00a0wages.<\/p>\n<p>Merchants, he said, have complained to him that they were answering\u00a0enquirers from the Ministry and to make matter worst, many officers\u00a0have their different priorities in the investigation which made it\u00a0hard for the merchants. &#8220;Therefore, I suggest that Chong hold a\u00a0workshop session with them to explain to them what are the rules and\u00a0regulations of the Ministry before punishing them,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tiang said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government should not have\u00a0abolished the GST but reduced it. To implement SST, it will create a\u00a0loophole for the tax evaders.<\/p>\n<p>From what he learned from the merchants, they face a lot of other\u00a0hidden hikes, reduction in promotion by suppliers, incentives by\u00a0suppliers and increase of the goods. It is unreasonable to the\u00a0merchants as a government should be lending a hand to help businesses\u00a0and not to add burden to them.<\/p>\n<p>From the Budget 2019, Tiang pointed out that there was no financial\u00a0aid to business people. &#8220;The people are having hard time. Merchants\u00a0are having hard time.
