In a recent statement, SUPP Central Youth Chief Michael Tiang congratulated Mr. Baru Bian and Mr. Chong Chieng Jen for being appointed as the Minister of Works and Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs respectively, although the full list of the Cabinet members revealed today was a\u00a0 big disappointment to Sarawak people.<\/p>\n
Ever since Pakatan Harapan ruled Putrajaya as the new Federal government, Sarawak has remained on the losing end of the spectrum. Only days after the PH took over the government, Sarawak PH already started to look for many lame excuses not to implement their election promises in the Buku Harapan, particularly the promise of 20% oil royalties and 50% tax collected from Sarawak to be returned to Sarawak. When the suit was commenced by Petronas against Sarawak Government over the rights to oil and gas in Sarawak, whereby our rights over our own oil and gas were being questioned and challenged, Sarawak PH MPs chose to remain silent throughout the whole episode. Sarawakians were being let down by those MPs\u2019 silent treatment after they had set our hopes so high in the GE14.<\/p>\n
As regards today\u2019s newly announced cabinet name list, Sarawak again was found to be on the losing side. Although Sarawak is one of the three founding members of the Federation of Malaysia, Sarawak representatives only makes up of 4% in the total number of the PH cabinet members which is the tiniest number of reps in the cabinet since 1963. Where is the change promised by PH that Sarawakians were voting for? In fact, this constitutes the loudest denial of our founding partner status.<\/p>\n
DAP Sarawak used to accused the former BN Sarawak political parties for causing Sarawak to be downgraded to become one of the 13 states in Malaysia. Likewise \u00a0it is clear that Sarawak\u2019s position was further eroded by PH in the newly formed Cabinet.<\/p>\n
Tiang views that Malaysia shall not be governed by a single political alliance is further supported by the establishment of this new federal cabinet.<\/p>\n
Both Sarawak DAP and PKR are not local based political parties. They are mere \u201ccawangan\u201d subordinated to their respective party headquarters in the Peninsula. Therefore both Sarawak branches have not much independent powers in decision making. Be it positions in the party or in the cabinet, both Sarawak DAP and PKR reps are nothing more than auxiliary members. Therefore both Sarawak DAP and PKR branch chiefs are only given one full minister and one deputy. Whereas Warisan Sabah is an independent and local based political party in Sabah. By winning 8 seats in GE14 which is much lesser than the 12 seats won by Sarawak PH, they were given 2 full Ministers and 2 deputies.<\/p>\n
Tiang reiterated that the formation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) by the four local based political parties recently in Sarawak, has successfully restored the 1963\u2019s original political landscape, whereby the three territories namely Malaya, Sarawak and Sabah are governed by their own local political parties independently for the purposes of check and balance as well as for the 3 territories to rule the federation together. This is the correct political moves and integrity, which shall be preserved and respected.<\/p>\n
Tiang pointed out that MP Chong used to reject the notion of wearing official songkok at any Sarawak DUN ceremonial activities. However, at the Cabinet\u2019s swearing in ceremony today, he wore songkok without resistance and hesitation. By doing so, was YB Chong making a statement that Sarawak DUN is not as honourable and respectful as the Cabinet\u2019s swearing in ceremony for him to wear the ceremonial songkok? And if Chong chose to compromise with the songkok, how much more our Sarawak PH reps are ready to compromise in the Federal in the days to come?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
