Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Sarawak United People\u2019s Party (SUPP) and United People\u2019s Party (UPP) for the sake of unity of the Chinese community. \u00a0H\u00e9<\/span>\u00a0said it would \u200benable both parties to\u00a0\u200bunite and represent the Chinese community.<\/p>\n

\u200bStating that the unity between the two parties is important, he congratulated both of the Presidents for setting aside their personal differences \u200bfor the sake of the people and Sarawak.<\/p>\n

Abang Jo said this also helps them easier\u00a0to pursue our desire, especially in our efforts to take back the lost rights within Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),\u201d he told a press conference after witnessing the signing of MoU at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here.<\/p>\n

The MoU signed reads:<\/p>\n

\u200bSUPP and UPP have reached a mutual understanding of the following:-<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
(1) Having the vision of a strong and stable government for a progressive and\u00a0just society in Sarawak, SUPP (Founding Member of BN) and UPP\u00a0embrace and subscribe to the inclusive spirit of Barisan Nasional (BN) \u00a0under the leadership of YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul\u00a0Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

(2) With the unequivocal aim to serve the people through greater political\u00a0representation, both SUPP and UPP, agree to explore and take steps\u00a0toward uniting the two parties into a single larger political entity to have\u00a0a stronger representation in the Sarawak BN, with the eventual and\u00a0ultimate intention of being part of the Sarawak BN under SUPP;<\/p>\n

(3) A Consultative Committee shall be set up comprising the respective\u00a0President and the Secretary General of each party. This Consultative\u00a0Committee\u2019s mandate shall be to work out the way towards reconciliation\u00a0of both parties as well as to maintain constant communication to build up\u00a0mutual trust and respect as well as to avoid any misunderstanding;<\/p>\n

(4) Both parties understand and agree that there are many matters and\u00a0subjects that need to be deliberated with mutual consent, respect and\u00a0confidence in the Consultative Committee before such exercise can be\u00a0implemented;<\/p>\n

(5) Both parties would collaborate with each other to ensure the victory of all\u00a0Sarawak BN candidates in the forthcoming Parliamentary Election; and<\/p>\n

(6) This Memorandum of Mutual Understanding is to bring about greater\u00a0unity within the community in the interests of Sarawak and that all parties\u00a0will cooperate and work closely to fullfil the objectives of this MOU.<\/p>\n
