The remark by Tan Sri Pandikar that the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is not important only shows his ignorance. It was an international treaty and the basis in the formation of Malaysia.<\/p>\n
The stand of Sarawak United People\u2019s Party over the MA63 is clear and\u00a0 firm. The party insist on thorough review of the MA63 and take back those rights, protections and safeguards that were originally ours as stated in the MA63. It is undisputed fact that Sabah and Sarawak and Federated Malaya were equal partners and not one of the 13 states in the formation of Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Tan Sri Pandikar’s view had not only denied the equal\u00a0 partnership of Sarawak, but also dismissed the true historical facts of the formation of the Federation of\u00a0 Malaysia.<\/p>\n
SUPP join hands with all\u00a0\u00a0 Sarawakians \u00a0and stand \u00a0solidly \u00a0behind our\u00a0 Chief Minister in\u00a0 demanding for the review of the MA63.<\/p>\n
We fully support\u00a0 the stand of the Chie Minister of Sarawak. We will never compromise on any attempt\u00a0 by any national\u00a0 leader to disregard the\u00a0 importance of MA63.<\/p>\n
The Federal Parliament has no power to make any amendment to the Federal Constitution\u00a0 where such amendments infringed on the special rights safeguards and protections given to the Borneo States\u00a0 of Sarawak and Sabah. These special safeguards and protections given to Sarawak and Sabah were incorporated into the Federal Constitution which was enacted under the Malaysia Act 1963 passed by\u00a0 the Parliament of\u00a0 the U.K. and Federation of Malaya.<\/p>\n
The Federal Constitution had\u00a0 been amended more than 500 times over the past 50 years. The amendments had grossly eroded the original safeguards, power\u00a0 and protections given to Sarawak and Sabah. As such, it is right and proper for the Sarawak Government to ask the Federal Government to review MA63 seriously.<\/p>\n
The fact remains that the Borneo States of Sarawak and Sabah were not one of the 13 states\u00a0 of Malaysia, but equal partners to the formation of the Federation of Malaysia. No body can deny the fact. After all, the MA63 was signed in London by the U.K, Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah.
