{"id":19738,"date":"2017-10-16T16:56:21","date_gmt":"2017-10-16T08:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=19738"},"modified":"2017-10-16T17:20:05","modified_gmt":"2017-10-16T09:20:05","slug":"datuk-sebastian-no-to-malaysia-as-a-full-fledged-islamic-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=19738","title":{"rendered":"Datuk Sebastian &#8211; no to Malaysia as a full-fledged Islamic state"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUPP and majority of us Sarawakians, will never agree with the\u00a0comments made by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister&#8217;s\u00a0Department Senator Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki that Barisan Nasional\u00a0government is committed to make Malaysia an Islamic state, said\u00a0Secretary general, Dato&#8217; Sebastian Ting.<\/p>\n<p>Ting said It is not possible to change Malaysia into a full-fledged\u00a0Islamic state as that will require radical amendments to many\u00a0provisions of the Federal Constitution such as two-thirds majorities\u00a0in both Houses, consent of the Conference of Rulers and consent of the\u00a0Yang di-Pertua Negeri of both Sarawak and Sabah.<\/p>\n<p>Sarawak has enjoyed the beauty of living together in peace and harmony\u00a0irrespective of race or religion or culture and our people will never\u00a0agree to convert Malaysia into an Islamic state because it is not at\u00a0the best interest of the people of Sarawak. Thus, the idea of turning\u00a0Malaysia is definitely a \u2018No\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>When Sarawak and Sabah formed Malaysia back in 1963, our founding\u00a0leaders of both countries made it very clear during the negotiation\u00a0that Malaysia was and still is to be as secular state.
