Yesterday, an additional three areas were declared as rabies infected areas, while a 52-year-old man from a kampung near Serian was confirmed as the fifth victim who has contracted the deadly disease.<\/p>\n
SUPP Public Complaint Bureau (PCB) wishes to alert the general public, especially pet owners to be extra careful and take good care of their animals, keep them in safe places so they don\u2019t get in contact with infected animals.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur pets can potentially contract the disease, if come into contact with the infected animals which include rats and bats. So, please keep them in safe places, get them vaccinated by all means. Our pets are like our family members, get them vaccinated is the best thing we can do for them right now\u201d, says PCB Chief Wilfred Yap.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, PCB is also pleading to the local councils, to exercise great patience and professionalism when handling the animals, as many of these cats and dogs are seen and treated like a family member by their owners.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand certain measures need to be taken in order to contain the disease and keep it from spreading, but please understand the pet owners\u2019 feeling. Animal lovers are devastated and heartbroken seeing these innocent creatures being caught and caged.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the same time, Yap is also reminding pet owners, that it is their responsibility to take care of their pets, even when there is no disease outbreak, in order to further prevent any unwanted incidences.<\/p>\n
