Miss Kumang Gawai (Bidayuh category) 2009 and 1st runner-up of the Dayung Iyang Biatah Gawai 2011, Priscilla Hyginus has been chosen the choreographer for the upcoming Dayung Sangon 2014 beauty contest slated on May 10.<\/p>\n

Her selection was based on her experience as winner of those beauty contests as well her experience in choreographing several past beauty contests.<\/p>\n

In sharing her experience as a contestant in a beauty contest, Priscilla said every participant should believe in themselves and be confident when they are on stage.<\/p>\n

Priscilla said before she participated in any beauty pageant before she had to prepare her mind, spirit and body in readiness for the pageant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI read as much as I could on general knowledge about happenings in my community and city and state.<\/p>\n

“That helped during the preliminary round. I took care of my grooming and appearance, made sure I ate well and slept well. But most important, I made sure that my self-confidence level was intact.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy message to the contestants for Dayung Sangon 2014 is to believe in yourself and be confident when you are on stage,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

A total of 46 entries have been received for the inaugural Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) \u2018Dayung Sangon\u2019 beauty pageant when registration closed on Monday (April 14, 2014).<\/p>\n

The participants are from throughout the country including those residing in Peninsula Malaysia and Sabah.<\/p>\n

Chairperson of the sub-committee Kendy Edwards said the 46 contestants will compete in the preliminary round to be held on April 26, starting at 9 am at Eastern Mall Supermarket in Siburan Bazaar.<\/p>\n

Only 12 finalists will be chosen for the finale to be held on May 10 at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) multi-purpose hall at the association\u2019s headquarters here.<\/p>\n

Kendy said even the preliminary round is going to be full of excitement and urged members of the public to come together to watch the competition.<\/p>\n

The ‘Dayung Sangon\u2019 beauty contest is the first to be organised by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) in conjunction with this year\u2019s Gawai Dayak festival.<\/p>\n

The contest which is opened to single Bidayuh ladies ((either parent must be Bidayuh), aged 18 to 25-year-old offers total cash prizes of RM7,800 cash prizes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Dayung Sangon champion will walk away with RM3,000 cash prize while the first and second runner-up winners will win RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively besides trophies.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will also be nine consolation prizes at RM200 each and all finalists will receive hampers sponsored by Nestle Products,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said for the finale contestants would be judged on their beauty (50%), intelligence (20%), costume (20%) and poise (10%).<\/p>\n

She said for the questions and answer, the contestants may answer in Bahasa Malaysia or English.<\/p>\n
