SUPP Central\u00a0Wanita\u00a0Chairwoman,\u00a0Datin\u00a0Jennifer William strongly condemned a statement by\u00a0Tasik\u00a0Gelugor\u00a0MP, Datuk\u00a0Shabudin\u00a0Yahaya\u2019s\u00a0alleged statement on child raped victims can obtain good life if they marry their rapist.<\/p>\n
Datin\u00a0Jennifer strongly disagrees with such provoking statement, saying that it is insulting and disrespectful to women. \u00a0\u201cRape is the worst sexual abuse that can be inflicted on women and children. \u00a0It is heinous and brutal. \u00a0To say to have a good life by marrying your rapist is insulting and degrading<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n
Furthermore, she added, such statement is against the Government\u2019s prerogative in protecting rights of women and children\u00a0in the country and\u00a0SUPP Central\u00a0Wanita\u00a0urged the Government to take more proactive role in criminalising parties that disrespects women and children\u00a0be it individually or parties. \u00a0This is in-line with SUPP Central\u00a0Wanita\u2019s\u00a0support against rape and sexual abuse\/assault\u00a0towards women and children.<\/p>\n
In view of child\u00a0marriages,\u00a0Jennifer\u00a0affirms that child marriages is not the\u00a0way to legitimize sexual advances and claims on children\u00a0or minors. \u00a0According to her,\u00a0individuals or groups like\u00a0Shabudin\u00a0should have firm grasp on the concept (of child marriages)\u00a0and context\u00a0before issuing such provocative\u00a0and offensive\u00a0statement.<\/p>\n
What is more shocking, according to\u00a0Jennifer is the role of habitual rapists to their victim(s).\u00a0\u00a0Looking into\u00a0Shabudin\u2019scontext, Jennifer adds that this insinuation is morally and ethically wrong if girls were to marry their rapist who are\u00a0of their own family members, i.e.:\u00a0their father, brother, uncle and grandfather, let alone strangers.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIt disgust me that such rape occurs within the family circle. \u00a0It disgusts me more if it is suggested that rape victims should marry their rapist in order to have \u2018good life\u2019. \u00a0This kind of marriage cannot be justified. \u00a0It is not right at all<\/i>,\u201d Jennifer said.<\/p>\n
