{"id":16048,"date":"2017-03-09T19:45:57","date_gmt":"2017-03-09T11:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=16048"},"modified":"2017-03-09T21:43:20","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T13:43:20","slug":"politicians-should-come-together-and-opposed-the-amendment-to-act-355","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=16048","title":{"rendered":"Politicians should come together and opposed the amendment to Act 355"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sarawak United Peoples\u2019 Party (SUPP)Pelawan Secretary, Michael\u00a0Tiang and Milton Foo, youth Central Secretary called politicians from\u00a0different sides to come together and opposed the amendment to Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction)\u00a0 Act 355 which will affect the fundamentals of the Federal Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Tiang pointed out that it is a time for everyone to stand together as Malaysian as this will\u00a0affect Malaysia as a secular nation.<\/p>\n<p>He said there are some who wants the Act 355 to be amended who claimed\u00a0that the law has been in existence for many years and the amendment is\u00a0just a heavier penalty.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that through the amendment of the Act 355, the law will be\u00a0on par or even surpass that with the Federation Criminal jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are always told that the law will not affect non-Muslim and that\u00a0is a lie. It has already affected non-Muslim in the present situation\u00a0and with Act 355 amended, any non-Muslim family who has a Muslim\u00a0relative will be affected in a big way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>This will not only bring disaster to the Federal Constitutional but\u00a0also affect everyone socially.<\/p>\n<p>Foo said in Sarawak, there are only 31 members of Parliament out of\u00a0the 222 MPs. He said the voice of Sarawak is weak compared to that of\u00a0Peninsular Malaysia. He said Sarawak needs a stronger mandate in\u00a0Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Islam, he added, is not an official religion in Sarawak. With the amendment going through,\u00a0Foo said it will open up a floodgate of unpleasant things.<\/p>\n<p>He also hit at the DAP for asking them to leave Barisan Nasional\u00a0should the Act 355 be passed. Foo said they will stay in the coalition\u00a0to fight the wrong system and there is no reason for them to\u00a0back out when things are not going well.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the DAP, a party he said which make PAS stronger and now that PAS has wanted\u00a0Act 355,\u00a0 the DAP decided to shy away from them and wash their hands off\u00a0PAS.<\/p>\n<p>PAS president\u00a0 Abdul Hadi Awang tabled the Hudud\u00a0 amendment Bill in\u00a02016 in Parliament.
