Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang said he is very\u00a0pleased to have met Jeff, founder of WormingUp, an enterprise set up in Kuching\u00a0to reduce food waste.<\/p>\n

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has always been looking for ways to\u00a0lessen our impact on the environment, ensuring that we recycle as much\u00a0as we can, and waste as little as we can.<\/p>\n

Jeff and the team at WormingUp approached the MPP and recommended to help\u00a0with waste woes in Padawan.<\/p>\n

WormingUp has created programs and campaigns to raise awareness of\u00a0food waste in Malaysia, educating the public on what can be done to\u00a0reduct its impact on the environment.<\/p>\n

Food Waste Management Awareness Campaigns are organised and held in\u00a0shopping malls through out Kuching, namely: City One, Green Heights\u00a0Mall, Borneo Convention Centre, Riverside Shopping Complex, Eastern\u00a0Mall, Summer Shopping Mall, Sarawak Plaza and Kuching Central.<\/p>\n

Food Waste Awareness Talks involve the WormingUp team visiting\u00a0schools, companies and events to raise awareness about food waste\u00a0management, including: Popular, Youth Speak Forum, Riverside Talk,\u00a0X-FAB and Sup4Good.<\/p>\n

Educational Workshops are focussed on educating the younger generation\u00a0on the importance of waste segregation, instilling good habits to\u00a0benefit the future generations. These workshops are hands on, and have\u00a0been held at SMK Gapor Stampin, SMK Kuching High and Popular\u00a0MegaBookfair, encouraging students to make their own soap using\u00a0upcycled used oil.<\/p>\n

During events, WormingUp also collaborates with companies to reduce\u00a0wastage during their events, such as: UNIMAS Convocation Festival\u00a0(Confest) 2016, with 576kg of food waste collected, Rainforest Music\u00a0Festival, with 386kg of food waste collected,TedxYouth@Kenyalang, with\u00a018kg of food waste collected.<\/p>\n

Projects have been started, such as WeekendFarmer, where volunteers\u00a0experience farm work, and their products are sent to the Kuching urban\u00a0poor, and babycorn planting project where the babycorn planted was\u00a0donated to Society for Kuching Urban Poor (SKUP).<\/p>\n

So far, due to the initiatives driven by WormingUp, they have:<\/p>\n

* Upcycled up to 60,000kg of organic waste<\/p>\n

* 126.5 litres of used oil which was converted in to eco-friendly soap<\/p>\n

* Reached 3457 individuals<\/p>\n

* Received help from 75 volunteers<\/p>\n

* Provided 200 meals to Kuching urban poor<\/p>\n

It is refreshing and heartwarming to see the younger generation so\u00a0passionate and dedicated in making our world and the environment a\u00a0better place for our future generations.<\/p>\n

It is so important that this pilot program is encouraged and supported so that we can make our environment a better place!<\/p>\n
