{"id":12461,"date":"2016-09-16T21:03:12","date_gmt":"2016-09-16T13:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=12461"},"modified":"2016-09-16T22:46:09","modified_gmt":"2016-09-16T14:46:09","slug":"datuk-sebastian-significance-of-malaysia-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=12461","title":{"rendered":"Datuk Sebastian: significance of Malaysia Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State Assemblyman for Piasau, Dato&#8217; Sebastian Ting suggested\u00a0that September 16 be celebrated on a larger scale as this is the day\u00a0when Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah formed Malaysia way back in\u00a01963.<\/p>\n<p>Ting who is also the Secretary of Sarawak United Peoples&#8217; party (SUPP)\u00a0said September 16 is an important date for all Malaysians as it is a\u00a0day of remembrance of the greatest achievement by our people back in\u00a016 September 1963.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested that a grand celebration be carried out by taking turn in\u00a0Sarawak, Sabah and West Malaysia to celebrate the Day so that all\u00a0Malaysians would be able to understand the significant of the day with\u00a0a sense of comradeship and patriotism.<\/p>\n<p>Many young generations of Malayisans today, he added, are not entirely\u00a0clear in their mind of the significant of this date all due to the\u00a0lack of emphasis and details in our students&#8217; history text books all\u00a0these years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Malaysia was formed in 16 September 1963 by 4 countries:- Malaya,\u00a0Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah (previously called as North Borneo),\u00a0through the Malaysia Agreement 1963 which was signed in London on the\u00a09 July 1963. The purpose was to form a political and economic\u00a0cooperation between the 4 countries as equal partners to one another.<\/p>\n<p>Our people must remember that the relationship between Sarawak with\u00a0Kuala Lumpur is not the same as the relationship between Pahang with\u00a0Kuala Lumpur because we have our own autonomous powers which was\u00a0agreed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 by all parties. For the states\u00a0in Malaya, their relationship with the Federal government was\u00a0established by the Federation of Malaya Agreement 1957 whereas for\u00a0Sarawak and Sabah, our relationship with the Federal government were\u00a0established by the Malaysia Agreement 1963 which is an international\u00a0agreement deposited in the United Nations on 21 September 1970,&#8221; he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>Ting said on July 22 in 1963, he Head of State at that time was\u00a0Governor Sir Alexander Waddell handed over the Administrative Rule to\u00a0Sarawak First Chief Minister the late Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan\u00a0and his Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our first Sarawakian governor was Tun Abang Haji Openg who came into\u00a0the office on the 16 September 1963 marking the end of the British\u00a0rule in Sarawak. \u00a0In our humble opinion, the 22nd Day of July is\u00a0effectively our Sarawak Independence Day and indeed our present Chief\u00a0Minister Datuk Patinngi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had declared this day as\u00a0&#8220;HARI SARAWAK&#8221; and as a public holiday for all Sarawakians. \u00a0Further,\u00a0celebrating Malaysia Day on the 16 September should not be just about\u00a0the formation of Malaysia but also to celebrate the greatest\u00a0achievement by our Malaysians and for Sarawakians, the complete\u00a0Sarawak&#8217;s independence from the United Kingdom,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>SUPP, he assured are fully committed to &#8220;SAFEGUARD SARAWAK&#8221; and fight\u00a0for the best interest of Sarawakians and Support the Initiatives taken\u00a0by our Sarawak Government especially our Chief Minister Datuk Patinngi\u00a0Tan Sri \u00a0Adenan Satem in our quest for\u00a0autonomy for Sarawak.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As we celebrate this Important Malaysia Day, we, as loyal Malaysians,\u00a0must continue to value, treasure and protect the Peace and Harmony of\u00a0all Malaysians, irrespective of Race, Religion, Culture or political\u00a0inclination. \u00a0We must stay United,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/unnamed-17.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12462\" alt=\"unnamed-1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/unnamed-17-199x300.jpg\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/unnamed-17-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/unnamed-17-682x1024.jpg 682w, https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/unnamed-17.jpg 853w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State Assemblyman for Piasau, Dato&#8217; Sebastian Ting suggested\u00a0that September 16 be celebrated on a larger scale as this is the day\u00a0when Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah formed Malaysia way back in\u00a01963.
