{"id":9777,"date":"2016-03-11T13:59:52","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T05:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=9777"},"modified":"2016-03-11T16:14:09","modified_gmt":"2016-03-11T08:14:09","slug":"bn-must-win-absolute-majority-in-coming-state-election-peter-pau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=9777","title":{"rendered":"BN must win absolute majority in coming state election &#8211; Peter Pau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Statement from Peter Pau \u2013 SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Section Vice Chairman<\/p>\n<p>Sarawak Barisan Nasional, BN, must win an absolute majority in the number of seats in the coming state election so that it will have &#8220;sufficient bargaining chips&#8221; in the event of a showdown with the federal government as it strives for the state&#8217;s sovereign rights.<\/p>\n<p>In asserting this, the Sarawak United Peoples\u2019 party, SUPP&#8217;s potential candidate for\u00a0 contesting the Padungan state seat, Peter Pau, appeals to those Chinese voters who previously supported the Opposition, to be sober-minded, change their attitude in the coming state polls and give a chance to the Barisan Nasional&#8217;s Chinese candidates.<\/p>\n<p>He says just as Adenan has repeatedly made known, the state government needed\u00a0 Chinese representation to jointly run the state.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Pau welcomed the announcement which Adenan made lately that the state government would advertise, in various major newspapers, to recruit holders of the Unified Certificate Examination -UCE- into the state&#8217;s civil service.<\/p>\n<p>Adenan had also announced that Chinese Independent School-leavers were eligible to apply for assistance of the Sarawak vision foundation, which promised to encourage and relieve the financial burden of these students.<\/p>\n<p>Having announced the state government&#8217;s recognition of UCE, Adenan now translated it into action as seen in the impending recruitment of UCE holders into the civil service.<\/p>\n<p>Pau pointed out that by the very act of living up to his words, Adenan surely deserved praises and wide-spread support.<\/p>\n<p>Having taken various measres to reduce the people&#8217;s burden since becoming Sarawak&#8221;s Chief Minister some two years now, Adenan rightly fit the bill of being &#8220;The Chief Minister of all people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After becoming chief minister on 28<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0February 2014, Adenan first of all, pledged to protect Sarawak&#8217;s sovereignty, then promised to re-instate Sarawak&#8217;s rights and thirdly, to regain the power of taxation and to increase petroleum royalty.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that neighbouring Sabah had remained silence on similar subject matters despite having the same fate like Sarawak, Pau felt that its state government, being dominated by the the United Malay National Organization UMNO, could not and would not sound like a dissident.<\/p>\n<p>He believed that this was the reason why the Adenan-led state government dared to openly bar UMNO from entering Sarawak, and because the state Barisan Nasional comprised only local parties which were duty-bound to protect Sarawak&#8217;s interests and rights.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Pau criticized the State Assemblymen for Pending Violet Yong who claimed that &#8220;enhancing the strength of the Opposition is the one and only for Sarawak to strive for more benefit and interest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dismissing Yong&#8217;s remarks as &#8221; putting the cart before the horse&#8221; intended to mislead the voters, he said Sarawak would not have sufficient &#8220;bargaining chips&#8221; when negotiating with the federal government for regaining what it rightfully deserved, if the Barisan Nasional were defeated in the poll.
