{"id":8223,"date":"2015-11-01T11:57:31","date_gmt":"2015-11-01T03:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=8223"},"modified":"2015-11-01T15:27:07","modified_gmt":"2015-11-01T07:27:07","slug":"autonomy-from-putrajaya-for-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=8223","title":{"rendered":"Autonomy from Putrajaya for Education."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SUPP Stampin Parliamentary Liaison Committee has backed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem\u2019s move to seek autonomy from Putrajaya for education.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Tan Joo Phoi said the liaison committee has also suggested the state government set up a public university with English as its medium of instruction once the devolution of power in education had materialised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the moment, the only universities in Malaysia that use English as the medium of teaching are all private ones, while none of the public universities practise this,\u201d he told a news conference recently.<\/p>\n<p>The SUPP vice-president said if primary and secondary schools in Sarawak opted for English as the medium of instruction, the state government should also assist with the tertiary education of young Sarawakians.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the liaison committee will hold a forum entitled \u2018Defending Sarawak\u2019s Constitutional Rights\u2019 at Grand Continental Hotel on Nov 13, set to commence at 7.15pm.<\/p>\n<p>SUPP veteran leader Datuk David Teng, a former assistant minister and former Repok assemblyman, is the speaker.<\/p>\n<p>The forum will be conducted in English and admission is free.<\/p>\n<p>Only 100 seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SUPP Stampin Parliamentary Liaison Committee has backed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem\u2019s move to seek autonomy from Putrajaya for education.
