{"id":4560,"date":"2014-11-03T19:15:16","date_gmt":"2014-11-03T11:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=4560"},"modified":"2014-11-03T22:33:43","modified_gmt":"2014-11-03T14:33:43","slug":"religious-bigotry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=4560","title":{"rendered":"Religious bigotry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Land Development Minister, Tan Sri Dr. James Masing, who was annoyed by certain quarters calling him a tool of the Pakatan Rakyat on Monday when he spoke out against the seizure of the CDs and Christian books with material containing the word Allah at KLIA 2 on October 25, did some homework.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday Masing said he had checked with the Custom Department at the KLIA and was told that goods on transit to the next destination in Malaysia need not be checked by Customs in KLIA which was to arrive at the KLIA will not be checked there but at the destination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this instance the Christian books and CDs brought by Pastor Maklin Masiau from Medan to Kota Kinabalu, was on transit in KLIA. Therefore there was no necessity or required by law as explained by former Information Minister, Tan Sri Zainudin Maidin, for these books to be checked by Customs in KLIA. Either I was wrongly informed of the SOP in KLIA or Maidin was mislead,\u201d said Masing.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Maidin wrote in his blog that Masing was a tool used by Pakatan Rakyat to speak out against the seizure as the Customs officers were merely doing their job as stipulated under the law.<\/p>\n<p>Masing responded immediately that he was merely a tool of moderation, justice and fairplay in Malaysia. He said Malaysia had been painted as a nation of moderation and those bigots should not show us to be otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that the materials unlawfully seized should be returned to the rightful owner and those who ordered the materials to be seized should come clean in this.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Secretary general of Sarawak United Peoples\u2019 Party, Dato\u2019 Sebastian Ting said he was very disturbed by the recent frequent happenings on religious suppression by some bigots.<\/p>\n<p>He said he supported Masing for his brave statement and wanted a stop to all these unnecessary hurtful words and acts done to the minority.<\/p>\n<p>Ting said should this insensitiveness continues, the people will cast doubts on the government officers and there will be a feeling of uneasiness.
