Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Secretary General, Dato\u2019 Sebastian\u00a0 Ting said it is logical and appropriate that the Prime Minister would want to maintain August 31 as a day of Independence but also emphasis on Malaysia Day that is September 16 as equally important.<\/p>\n

Ting said in the Prime Minister\u2019s speech in Miri while celebrating the 51st anniversary on a grand scale, the PM has said the country will place August 31st and September 16 as equally importance as it enhances national integration.<\/p>\n

” Indeed,\u00a0 it was under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib that a public holiday was declared to commemorate and celebrate the formation of Malaysia on the 16th day of September each year, which we call Malaysia Day.\u00a0 Since becoming the PM, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib has consistently maintained that Sarawak and Sabah are important to Malaysia and that he (PM) would listen to our aspirations and allocate more allocations to Sarawak and Sabah for the physical development of both Sarawak and Sabah.”<\/p>\n

Last night PM made reference to the United States of America as an analogy as when it was formed on July 4 1776 there were only 13 states..Subsequent states joined in on different dates and years. Now the United States of America has 50 states. The USA commemorated the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, declaring independence from Great Britain. That date has never been changed,\u201d said Ting.<\/p>\n

Pointing out that Sarawak has gone a long way with Sabah and Malaya, Ting believed that it was all for a win-win situation for Malaysians to continue on co-existing with mutual respect, unity and\u00a0 harmony in this multi racial, multi-religion country. \u201cWe in Malaysia should continue to be a shinning example and be proud to show to the world how Malaysians can live in peace and harmony with diversify races, religions and cultures,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

SUPP Central Youth Chief, Tan Kai said one\u00a0\u00a0 of SUPP\u2019s\u00a0 objective is to promote and safeguard the interest of Sarawak in the context of Malaysia.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the party was formed, that was what we have been doing. We fully support with what the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has been doing for Sarawak. He has also asked for 20% loyalty for Sarawak and this is one of the thing that SUPP has wanted to do for Sarawakian,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Tan Kai said SUPP wanted Malaysia to be stable and economically strong. We hoped that our country will progress and that Sarawakians must have a share of the benefits in term of economical development.<\/p>\n
