I must say that since the last Triennial Delegates’ Conference on 11th December, 2011 (TDC 2011), almost daily our Party had to deal with challenges of all sorts; in particular, from our former leaders who challenged the legality of the TDC 2011 by lodging complaints with the Registrar of Societies. We all know they even went to the High Court of Kuala Lumpur to challenge the decision of the Registrar of Societies in order to reverse that decision which was in the Party favour. Such actions of trying to pick needles from a haystack are indeed detrimental to the interests of the Party and for this as well as other reasons, the CWC after careful deliberations decided to sack some of these former leaders of the Party. I, therefore, urge the Central Committee to wholeheartedly endorse these decisions to sack those members who had betrayed the interests of the Party through their words and actions.

Now that we have got rid of the enemies from within the party and our Party had resolved all issues with the Registrar of Societies, I wish to call on all CC members to help unite the Party throughout the State even in those areas where we face opposition from those sacked former members who have now banded together to form a new political party called the United Peoples Party or UPP. Even the name chosen by them has been carefully done to cause confusion to our members and the public so that they can gain support and sympathy. Let us make no mistake about the matter, UPP’s existence is to challenge SUPP and we better recognise this and be prepared to fight off this latest effort by these ex-members to bring our Party down. So if our Party is not united and takes things easy, then we may fall into the trap that they had prepared, especially if our party did not do well in the forth coming State General Elections because of the challenge by UPP and the Opposition.

Fellow Comrades,

What is important for all CC leaders is to ensure that the TDC tomorrow will be a smooth one and that SUPP is a solid and strong Party. Our Party should be able to withstand ALL CHALLENGES that may come our way. We need to let voters everywhere know that SUPP is willing to fight on and that SUPP will not buckle under just because a few members have left us to join UPP. We must show that we are willing to work hard to regain SUPP’s reputation of the past glory days. We must show that our leaders are not greedy for positions within our Party nor in the Government. We must show that we want to serve SUPP not because there is financial gain. We want the public to understand that the leaders of SUPP have their interests at heart and are willing to get things done for them. Let us show these qualities during our TDC tomorrow so I appeal to all existing CC members and elected delegates to remind ourselves to look for these qualities in our future leaders to rebuild SUPP.

I know there is still work to be done with regards to the Transformation Plan that I launched in July 2011 and subsequently approved by this Central Committee. The present CWC got bogged down by all the distractions resulted from the complaints lodged with the Registrar of Societies in 2011. As we all know, the Registrar of Societies took such a long time to decide that the TDC 2011 was legal with the decision conveyed to our Party on 30th April, 2014. To be fair some parts of the Transformation Plan were done already. But I do not want to find excuses on the performances of the Party during the last 2 years and 9 months. However, I want to say that despite all the challenges, the Party had made progress and I believe the Party is now more united and more resilient than before. As I leave the scene as your President, I am confident that the future for our Party can be brighter after all.

Thank you all for your support throughout our difficult times. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you as your President. It has been an unforgettable experience. During these difficult days, I learnt NEVER GIVE UP ON THE PARTY and I hope all of you feel the same way too.

SA’ATI, SA’ATI, SA’ATI!

The following is the text of speech by the Party’s President, Tan Sri Peter Chin, during the CC meeting at SUPP hq today (7 September).
