{"id":33240,"date":"2025-06-26T10:43:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T02:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=33240"},"modified":"2025-07-09T10:46:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T02:46:11","slug":"miri-central-police-station-to-receive-rm300000-for-upgrading-of-wiring-systems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=33240","title":{"rendered":"Miri Central Police Station to Receive RM300,000 for Upgrading of Wiring Systems"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Miri Central Police Station, a landmark building dating back to 1953, is set to undergo crucial electrical upgrades with an allocation of RM300,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funds were secured through the efforts of Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, following growing concerns over outdated and overloaded wiring systems that pose serious fire hazards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows an earlier emergency fund of RM150,000 approved last year to fix the station\u2019s leaking roof and restore parts of the facility damaged by prolonged rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ting, accompanied by his Private Secretary Ms. Chia Kah Furng, Miri City Councillor Cr. Kelvin Chia, Public Works Department (JKR) officers, and the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, conducted a site visit yesterday. The delegation assessed the extent of the wiring issues and discussed necessary steps to mitigate risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Miri Central Police Station is not only old but is currently operating with electrical systems that are no longer safe, particularly with the increased use of electronic equipment and the expansion of police operations,\u201d said Ting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that while a new police station would align with Miri\u2019s future urban development, the immediate concern is the safety of officers and the public. \u201cWe must address the existing hazards without delay.
