State Assemblyman for Kota Sentosa, Wilfred Yap, has responded to what he described as \u201cirresponsible remarks\u201d by Michael Kong, saying the latter had taken his recent comments in a media video out of context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe claim that I am unwilling to assist those with complaints is inaccurate and misrepresents the actual facts and intention behind my message,\u201d Yap said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that the statements he made in the video were meant to highlight the need for proactive governance and systemic accountability among government authorities and agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy message was clear, the public should first bring their issues to the attention of the relevant authorities or make use of platforms such as Talikhidmat, which are designed to facilitate direct and timely resolutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yap added that if these government channels prove ineffective, he has always encouraged his constituents to approach him directly so that he can escalate such issues to higher authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a responsible approach that not only addresses immediate concerns but also promotes accountability within the public service system. Unfortunately, Michael Kong and his DAP supporters on social media have deliberately ignored this important point,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs the elected representative of Kota Sentosa, my aim is to empower the people by reinforcing the use of proper channels while also being available to act when those systems fall short,\u201d Yap added. \u201cTo suggest otherwise is misleading.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged the public, particularly Michael Kong, to consider the full context of the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEffective representation involves more than simply addressing individual complaints. It requires systemic reform to fix inefficient government bureaucracies. Without understanding this distinction, elected representatives risk being reduced to mere complaint messengers, rather than drivers of real change,\u201d Yap said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He reaffirmed his commitment to assisting the people of N12 Kota Sentosa, especially when government mechanisms fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
