Sarawak is keen to follow in the footsteps of Basel, Switzerland, which focuses on quality public healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian through his Facebook account said that the mission and vision of the state there is in line with the aspirations of the Sarawak Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said this is why Sarawak aimed for health autonomy under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Dr Sim who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government expressed his gratitude to the Norvatis Pharmaceutical company based in Basel for choosing and trusting Sarawak as one of the main clinical research sites in Malaysia and a First In Human (FIH) research site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Sarawak wants to expand the existing FIH R&D and reduce dependence on natural resources beyond the current FIH, enabling Sarawak and Sarawakians to get a bigger share of Novartis’ R&D worth US$8.6 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This, he said, will be part of Sarawak’s development in the high-value economic chain and talent development, as well as reducing dependence on natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Novartis is one of the five best multinational pharmaceuticals in the world. The Kingdom of Basel is the richest of the 26 richest states in Switzerland, despite not having any natural resources, except for human resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
