SUPP Public Complaint Bureau,Milton Foo said he received complaint from the public that a 78-year-old Chinese elderly woman who was bitten by her own dog on June 3 and was denied treatment at Sarawak General Hospital on the same day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said she was told to return to the hospital for rabies vaccination until the end of the holiday ie. 6\/6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Worried of the seriousness of dog bite, the injured was left with no choice but to go to private hospital for rabies vaccination at her own costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Foo pointed out that according to the family members of the victim who was bitten by a dog, the hospital was unable to give the patients immediate rabies vaccination due to long holiday and low risk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Are we telling the public that you have to choose a good day or check on the auspicious zodiac date of being bitten by a dog? I can’t accept it, and the family members of the injured definitely can’t accept it as well. The medical officer who said that (ie. no medical staff can attend to the administration of rabies injection\/vaccination due to long holiday) should be more considerate & sensitive. What if this were to happen to his or her family member? If low risk as told, why the injured was nevertheless asked to come back to the hospital on the 6 June at 2pm to receive rabies vaccination? It makes no sense & I must say this is the worst reason out of all. The injured & her family members cannot agree to the reason given.” Foo said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He pointed out that the shortage of medical personnel in our country has been a long-standing issue. The current unity government must put in great effort & be committed to resolve this problem as everybody\u2019s live counts be it the rich or the poor, especially during the extraordinary time of rabies pandemic in Sarawak where there are reported cases of people died due to rabies outbreak in few towns recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Foo further stressed that the Federal Ministry of Health & government hospitals should act proactively to provide relative emergency measures for immediate rabies treatment & vaccination when people get bitten by dog. The ministry shall pay high & more attention by deploying more medical personnel and medical resources to Sarawak to combat rabies during this extreme time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
