Miri City Council has included in its current strategic plan as one of the priority areas of attention with regard to providing conducive living environment in the residential areas in Miri such as converting more open spaces into mini parks and recreational grounds for the benefits of residents there at. Nevertheless, the Council would not be able to abruptly develop and convert all the open spaces, primarily vested under the Council solely for maintenance (grass cutting) cum upkeep, into mini parks and recreation grounds complete with playground facilities and landscaping in light of limited fund available for development each year.
However, Miri City Council is grateful that the local assemblymen in Miri Division have been assisting to source for fund under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) so as to create more mini parks in the housing estates and kampung.
For the past 5 years, Yii stated that Datuk Lee Kim Shin, State Assemblyman for Senadin, Datuk Sebastian Ting, State Assemblyman for Piasau, YB Ripin Lamat, State Assemblyman for Lambir and others have been assisting the Council to source for fund under RTP which have seen success in implementing more than 40 projects for development of open spaces into mini parks in Miri City.
Apart from this, the Council has each year also allocated a fairly big sum for the maintenance, upkeep and upgrade all the parks and playgrounds under its jurisdiction.
