Secretary of the SUPP Youth Central, Milton Foo bombarded the Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department (Religious Affairs) YB Zulkifiri, for declaring Friday as Jawi Day allegedly in a move to boost a tradition and culture that has shaped Malaysia, as absurd & unsustainable in logic; which is to continue the narrow-minded policy inherited from the PH government announced then which has proven to have been rejected by the people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foo said the lack of consensus on the basis of societal diversity is incompatible with the principle of maintaining and consolidating Malaysia\u2019s traditions and cultures, let alone preserve the national heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He criticized the Minister concerned has failed to take cognisance of Malaysia as a multi-ethnic and multicultural nation, and under the Malaysia Agreement and the Federal Constitution, Malaysia is not only belonged to Malaya but also Sabah and Sarawak. The Jawi script policy kicked off by PH government has been criticized by people of all ethnic groups, including compatriots from the Malays, who believe that by compulsorily requiring other ethnic groups to learn a certain type of calligraphy is against the spirit of the federal constitution. Moreover, Malaysia\u2019s official language is Bahasa Malaysia rather than Jawi scripts, while English is still the official language in Sarawak other than BM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Following the minister\u2019s logic & reasoning, does it mean that the government have to fix Malay or English day in order to consolidate the official language? Should it be set on Monday? Or Tuesday? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also follows that in order to preserve our national heritage, do we also have to set up Iban language Day and Kadasan Dusun language Day? What about Tamil Language Day and Chinese Calligraphy Day? “<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foo opined that the justification given by the minister concerned is not only far-fetched and misconceived, but also an inverted step that does not conform to the diversity of Malaysian\u2019s cultures & religious beliefs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foo emphasised mutual respect between ethnic groups does not need to set a special day or a day in the week to serve as special reminder, but it is integrated in our daily life of every day and every moment, which serves the purpose & it\u2019s only meaningful when all Malaysians practice the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
