Two Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) branches (Belaga and Kemena)\u00a0are not eligible to conduct their branch election \u00a0this coming July 15, 2014 to August 3, 2014, \u00a0said President of the party, Tan Sri Peter Chin, in a press conference after the CWC meeting today (14 Jun 2014).<\/p>\n
Chin\u00a0had earlier affirmed that\u00a0\u00a0three branches are not allowed to conduct their branches meeting –\u00a0 Belaga, Kemena and Sibu, but due to the large number of \u201cLife\u201d members in the Sibu branch, they are subsequently eligible.<\/p>\n
The two branches were not eligible as they had not submitted their list of members before the closing date in April.<\/p>\n
Each branch, according to the party constitution, \u00a0has to submit the names and receipts of members who paid up their annual membership fees. But due to the large number of life members in Sibu branch (2417), they are able to make up the quorum of 90 members for a branch election and 42 members for sub-branch elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u00a0is a\u00a0total of 316 members, one life member and non-paying members in Belaga.\u00a0 In the Kemena branch there are 396 members with no\u00a0life and non-paying member.\u00a0 While in the Sibu branch there are\u00a020,417 members with 2,417 life members in total,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chin said all the branches had to adhere to the rules and regulations as stipulated in the party Constitution and\u00a0all these branches have received\u00a0\u00a0a 24 paragraphs list of the\u00a0‘do’s” and ‘don’ts’.<\/p>\n
Chin stressed that all branches were told to adhere to the rules and regulations so that there would\u00a0not be any more complain this time.<\/p>\n
During the last branch election, 15 branches were affected and disgruntled members complained to the\u00a0 Registrar of Society after which two branches, Bekenu and Piasau, were de-registered. The de-registration were lifted after ROS was satisfied with their appeal.<\/p>\n
The President also noted that there is lack of\u00a0details and records for\u00a0members in the\u00a0Sibu branch so\u00a0there is a need for them to submit the necessary report and\u00a0counterfoil.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
