Sarawak United Peoples\u2019 Party (SUPP) Bintangor branch Youth chief Tang\u00a0Kieh Ming reminded Democratic Action Party (DAP) that in order to\u00a0solve the people’s livelihood problems, it is necessary to do it\u00a0through practical actions and capabilities, instead of verbally\u00a0communicating all the time.\u00a0“Being a ruling party, DAP should have the ability to obtain funding\u00a0from the federal government in solving the problem of water supply in\u00a0Meradong area. It\u2019s rather puzzling why DAP does not put it in action?\u00a0Why they rather choose to put pressure through media?”<\/p>\n

Tang, who is also SUPP Youth Central deputy chairman, refuted the\u00a0arguments made by Ting Yii Hiep, the chairman of DAP Bintangor branch\u00a0recently.<\/p>\n

In response to Ting\u2019s remark stating that Cempedak water filtration\u00a0station in Bintangor has rarely been improved, he pointed out that\u00a0indeed during the former BN’s administration, the federal government\u00a0had at least allocated some funds to improve the people’s livelihood\u00a0in the division of Sarikei, which included water supply system in\u00a0Meradong District. This can be affirmed by the statement made by\u00a0Sarikei MP Andrew Wong Ling Biu from DAP in 2016. He said that Federal\u00a0Ministry of Rural and Regional Development at the time had a project\u00a0costing RM102.5 million in the constituency of Sarikei which included\u00a0upgrading the water source equipment and installing new water pipes.<\/p>\n

Responding to Ting\u2019s \u201csoft whisper\u201d argument, Tang said: \u201cSince the\u00a0tax collected by federal government also includes the amount paid by\u00a0people in Meradong District, it is the responsibility of the federal\u00a0government to improve local facilities to solve the people\u2019s\u00a0livelihood issues. Why should we demand what\u2019s rightful to us in \u201csoft\u00a0whisper\u201d? I am puzzled, is it because currently DAP is under the\u00a0management of West Malaysia, so Sarawakians should whisper softly\u00a0whenever they are seeking funding for the people’s livelihood? Is this\u00a0an act that decline the status of Sarawak?”\u00a0In regard to Ting\u2019s remark in his statement saying that DAP involved\u00a0in communicating with Rural Water Supply Department every day, he goes\u00a0on in questioning: Is there any achievement from the communicating?\u00a0While confronting the issue of people’s livelihood, if we merely do\u00a0verbal communicating, but without any actions, then how can we really\u00a0solve the problem? Since DAP is the ruling party at federal level, and\u00a0the incumbent member of Parliament is also from DAP, when the\u00a0communicating brought no results, did DAP seek solutions or funds from\u00a0the Federal Ministry of Rural Development through their MP? Did DAP\u00a0really make any effort in ensuring federal government performing the\u00a0right function and paying back Meradong people with the livelihood\u00a0facilities that they deserve?\u00a0“Therefore, I would like to address a question to DAP Bintangor\u00a0branch: After Pakatan Harapan (PH) formed the federal government, has\u00a0there been any funding for the water supply system in Meradong? Please\u00a0get the relevant figures from the MP of Sarikei, as all of us in\u00a0Meradong district is rightful to know the truth.”<\/p>\n

While disappointed with the way of DAP that did not adopt a practical\u00a0plan to solve the problem of water supply, but relied solely on the\u00a0media to exert pressure instead, he questions that does this mean DAP\u00a0has no say in the federal PH government when come to funding for\u00a0peoples\u2019 livelihood? or it reflects the mind of PH leaders that the\u00a0Meradong people who suffered water shortage is only of minority and is\u00a0insignificant? Or else it\u2019s due to the belief of leaders in DAP\u00a0Bintangor branch that DAP, though as the ruling party, is not obliged\u00a0to solve the issue of people’s livelihood? Do they think that it\u2019s all\u00a0up to expectation of the voters who supported them by merely doing\u00a0talking shows in the media?\u00a0Regarding DAP\u2019s allegation stating that “YB Ding Kwong Hiing\u00a0retaliated against the people”, Tang emphasizes that as local-based\u00a0political party from Sarawak, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and SUPP\u00a0have never retaliated against the people on various issues, nor have\u00a0they blamed the people, and the previous remarks from YB Ding were\u00a0solely directed at DAP Bintangor. Therefore, it\u2019s no point for DAP to\u00a0divert the focus, in what seems like an escape, and take the people as\u00a0a shield instead.<\/p>\n

Finally, Tang advises DAP Bintangor not to evade responsibility in the\u00a0Meradong water supply issue, or even deliberately magnify the issue\u00a0and make usage of the people\u2019s dissatisfaction in an attempt to shift\u00a0all their responsibilities to GPS, so that DAP can stay out of it.<\/p>\n
