Padawan Municipal council Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang who is also State\u00a0Assemblyman for Batu Kitang said the closure of the Mile 10, 1Malaysia\u00a0clinic is not logical as the Sentosa hospital and Sarawak General\u00a0hospital are experiencing congestion.<\/p>\n

He said based on his experience, our main challenge is uneven\u00a0distributions of doctors especially specialists across the country.\u00a0\u201cWe have a lot of doctors, enough to cater for our population, but\u00a0they are mainly concentrated in west Malaysia. We are seriously\u00a0lacking of specialists in various fields in Sarawak, especially in\u00a0smaller town like Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang. While the services of\u00a0clinic\u00a0 1Malaysia may not be absolutely comprehensive, it serves its\u00a0purpose of providing necessary health care for simple sickness and\u00a0affordable medicine. There is no need to queue at the general hospital\u00a0and relieves the general hospital from the burden to entertain small\u00a0cases and have the time and enregy to deal with major cases,\u201d he\u00a0added.<\/p>\n

Lo asked what is the point of Prime Minister to take over Sarawak when\u00a0the promises of returning Sarawak’s rights and Sarawak’s wealth\u00a0 have\u00a0not been fulfilled? Where are those promises to return authority and\u00a0rights under public health and education back to Sarawak? If Sarawak\u00a0were to determine our own policies on public health and education,\u00a0maintain English as the language of information, science and\u00a0technology, Sarawak will undoubtedly excel, just like our neighbours,\u00a0Singapore and Brunei.<\/p>\n

The people of Sarawak must realise that Sarawak has been neglected all\u00a0these years. Sarawak’s advance health care has been underdeveloped and\u00a0Sarawak is seriously in need of a cancer centre and we have asked for\u00a0money for ages from the federal government and till now still nothing.\u00a0We are also in serious need for a university hospital for Unimas and\u00a0again it has been 20 years since the starts of medical school in\u00a0unimas and we have no hospital also. This is very disappointing and\u00a0embarrassing. Where is the 20% oil royalty promised by PH and the\u00a0return of public health and education autonomy back to Sarawak? Not a\u00a0cent till today and Tun Dr. Mahathir still wants to take over Sarawak!<\/p>\n

He added a Cancer centre is really needed as he personally knew of a\u00a0lot of poor patients poor asking for help for money to travel to KL\u00a0for transplantation and various types of treatment. \u201cIf we have one,\u00a0we can help a lot of local people here. A cancer centre will also\u00a0attract many local good specialist to return to Sarawak, just like\u00a0Datuk\u00a0 Dr Sim Kui Hien who has\u00a0 kept many cardiologist in Sarawak with\u00a0his heart centre,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
