Pakatan Harapan Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen and his MPs were out to\u00a0spin Sarawak people again in their latest announcement yesterday.<\/p>\n

According to Chong, PH is now offering a “5+20” package deal to\u00a0Sarawak, which includes maintaining an oil royalty of 5% plus an\u00a0additional 20% oil profits for Sarawak. This is obviously another\u00a0“U-turn” attempted by PH Sarawak which manifests their now common\u00a0stand that “the manifesto is not a bible, but a guide.” asked Michael\u00a0Tiang, SUPP youth chief.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is Chong\u2019s Sarawakian stand in respect of the oil royalty\u00a0issues?\u201d Tiang questioned. \u201cIsn\u2019t it true that Chong had been\u00a0preaching to the people that once PH succeeded in taking over as the\u00a0new government of the day, there\u2019s no need for Sarawak to beg. The PH\u00a0government will immediately give 20% oil royalty and 50% tax revenues\u00a0to Sarawak?\u201d \u201cBut today we were told that the oil royalty will be\u00a0remained at 5% instead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yesterday\u2019s announcement by Chong on the new oil profits sharing\u00a0package has cast a serious doubt over his authority as the\u00a0announcement was not made by the Prime Minister himself or Datuk Seri\u00a0Azmin Ali the Economic Affairs Minister himself who is tasked to\u00a0oversee the oil royalty issues; instead the new deal was made by a\u00a0deputy minister of domestic trade and consumer affairs.\u00a0 \u201cWas Chong\u00a0authorized by the Cabinet to make such an announcement yesterday? What\u00a0is his authority?\u201d Tiang questioned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen offering Sarawak another 20% oil profits, Chong never told the\u00a0people how much this 20% oil profits worth in monetary values. Being a\u00a0deputy minister, it is totally absurd for Chong not to give us the\u00a0figures and statistics to show us exactly how much actual revenues\u00a0Sarawak would receive from the oil profits before he\u2019s making such a\u00a0statement. As we all know, by merely talking about the percentage,\u00a0Sarawak people can easily be misled by PH again.\u201d<\/p>\n

I would also like to remind Chong that his priority as the only deputy\u00a0minister for Sarawak is to (1) safeguard Sarawak’s sovereignty over\u00a0our own oil by getting back 20% oil royalty for Sarawak as promised in\u00a0PH’s manifesto; (2) to oppose fervently against the notion that oil\u00a0profits should replace oil royalty by the PH government; and (3) to\u00a0move motions to amend both Petroleum Development Act 1974 and\u00a0Territorial Sea Act 2012 so that these two acts cannot be enforced in\u00a0Sarawak. Tiang concluded his press statement saying that, \u201cthe\u00a0campaign for the general election is now over. It is time for Chong to\u00a0walk the talk, instead of playing politics by putting blames on\u00a0Sarawak government to mask his own incompetence.\u201d<\/p>\n
