\u201cPakatan Harapan cannot impose new and additional conditions for them\u00a0to fulfill their election promises after winning. If they need more\u00a0time, time can be given,\u201d said Michael Tiang, Supp Central Youth Chief\u00a0in responding to Pakatan Harapan state chief Chong Chieng Jen who\u00a0earlier on told the press that the PH government will no longer give\u00a0to Sarawak 20% oil royalty and 50% of tax collected as promised in the\u00a0PH\u2019s manifesto on the ground that the Sarawak government has failed to\u00a0agree taking over the State\u2019s education and public health from the\u00a0federal government.<\/p>\n

According to Tiang, the public were very shocked when they were told\u00a0by the newly appointed Deputy Minister for Domestic Trade and Consumer\u00a0Affairs that the payments of oil royalty and collected tax for Sarawak\u00a0are in fact conditional promises. On the other hand, the public cannot\u00a0recall they had heard or read such fine print in PH campaign ceramah\u00a0or Buku Harapan, the PH\u2019s manifesto for the last general election.<\/p>\n

\u201cChong must acknowledge the fact that Sarawak has rights to our oil\u00a0and autonomy. Period. We do not attain those rights through bargaining\u00a0or exchanging conditions with any party.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI kept wondering why our\u00a0deputy minister who is also a Sarawakian would care to continue\u00a0\u201cdowngrading\u201d Sarawak\u2019s position in all these matters. Didn\u2019t he\u00a0understand for a minute that Sarawakians are not begging for extra\u00a0grace from the Federal. We are demanding for what is ours is ours!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was PH making promises to the people during the last election\u00a0campaign. No one forced them to do that. Now with those promises they\u00a0have won the election. Therefore It\u2019s time for PH to fulfill those\u00a0promises without giving any more lame excuses or adding any\u00a0afterthought conditions to evade their duty to the people. And please\u00a0don\u2019t make the people to beg again. We are not beggars, but the voters\u00a0that voted you into Putrajaya.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tiang in his press statement expressed his suspicion that the reason\u00a0PH Sarawak was evading the promises of oil royalty and collected tax\u00a0was due to the fact there were only two Sarawak representatives in the\u00a0Federal Government, namely Chong himself and Baru Bian. \u201cI wonder how\u00a0much attention would be given to our two representatives in the\u00a0Cabinet in respect of Sarawak\u2019s demands and issues. All I am very sure\u00a0of is that when Chong kept telling Sarawak people that \u201cwe do not need\u00a0so many ministers so long the people can have good life\u201d, he was being\u00a0absolutely ignorant. With only 4% voting rights and allocated funds in\u00a0the Cabinet, how do you expect our people to have good life?\u201d<\/p>\n
