{"id":22074,"date":"2018-06-04T16:27:52","date_gmt":"2018-06-04T08:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=22074"},"modified":"2018-06-05T00:29:45","modified_gmt":"2018-06-04T16:29:45","slug":"tiang-consider-ags-appointment-according-to-constitution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=22074","title":{"rendered":"Tiang: consider AG\u2019s appointment according to Constitution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sarawak United Peoples&#8217; Party (SUPP) Michael Tiang urged the\u00a0relevant authorities to consider a candidate\u2019s qualification\u00a0strictly within the requirements of our Federal Consideration while\u00a0considering the candidate for the new Attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>Tiang who is also the Political secretary to the Chief Minister said\u00a0Pakatan Harapan Government\u2019s proposal of appointing a veteran\u00a0constitutional lawyer Tommy Thomas to be the next Attorney General for\u00a0the federal government should be on merits.<\/p>\n<p>According to Tiang, it is clear that under Article 145 of the Federal\u00a0Constitution, the qualification for a person to be appointed as the AG\u00a0is a person who is qualified to be a judge of the Federal Court. And\u00a0under Article 123, such person must be a citizen and for the last 10\u00a0years before his appointment shall have been an advocate or a\u00a0member of the Judicial and Legal service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe constitutional is clear on the AG\u2019s appointment. There\u00a0are no other requirements beyond those relevant Articles of the\u00a0Constitution as stated above. Therefore I don\u2019t see any questions to\u00a0Mr. Thomas\u2019 qualification as a qualified person to be appointed as the\u00a0next AG for the federal government as proposed by the PH Government,\u201d\u00a0said Tiang.<\/p>\n<p>He further stressed that \u201cIt is always SUPP\u2019s stand to uphold the\u00a0spirit and the letter of the Federal Constitution as the supreme law\u00a0of this land. SUPP firmly believes that our Federal Constitution does\u00a0not in any way discriminate any race or religion. Instead our Federal<br \/>\nConstitution is the cornerstone of our Malaysian\u2019s multiracial, multi\u00a0religions, multicultural, democratic and secular\u00a0community.
