2018 New Year Message\u00a0from<\/p>\n
Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian, President of SUPP, cum Minister of Local Government and Housing, Sarawak<\/p>\n
Time passes\u00a0 very fast, we are now usher in\u00a0 a new\u00a0 year, 2018.<\/p>\n
During the\u00a0 past 2017, we Sarawakians \u00a0 had many unforgettable memories. We had\u00a0 lost our wise and capable Chief Minter Datuk Patinggi Adenan Satem. Though Tok Nan did not lead Sarawak for a long period, he\u00a0 nevertheless had brought great changes to Sarawak, making breakthrough and bringing about\u00a0 development, and\u00a0 implementing policies\u00a0 beneficial to all the people in Sarawak.<\/p>\n
Though Tok Nan had\u00a0 left us, he would always be remembered by Sarawakians as\u00a0 a great man.<\/p>\n
We are grateful that our current Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari, has not only continued\u00a0 the policies of Tok Nan, he has also done his utmost best to push ahead\u00a0 the development of Sarawak, making sure the paces of development in Sarawak match that of the world, including important policies such as the formation of the Development\u00a0 Bank of Sarawak, the implementation of the Sarawak Pay, and \u00a0 the LRT which is\u00a0 now under active planning and others.<\/p>\n
Sarawak is heading towards electronic, scientific and technical development. We are trustful that the future of Sarawak is bright and prosperous.<\/p>\n
The GE14 would be held in 2018. It is an important general elections which would decide whether the country would continue to grow and whether the security in the country would remain stable in the\u00a0 next five\u00a0 years.<\/p>\n
Sarawak, as an important partner in the formation of the Federation of Malaysia, would strive to uphold the stability and\u00a0 racial harmony in the country. Sarawak\u00a0 would\u00a0 strengthen its\u00a0 political\u00a0 position in Malaysia, maintaining\u00a0 its representation and its\u00a0 importance to the country. An important Sarawak\u00a0 vision is getting back the rights and autonomy that Sarawak enjoy under the MA63.<\/p>\n
The four component parties of the Sarawak BN, namely PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP have to materialize the aspiration of the people of Sarawak whereby the political autonomy of Sarawak is strengthened through the\u00a0 coming GE14.<\/p>\n
Though Sarawak has only 31 seats in the 222 seats Malaysia Parliament, nevertheless, it can influence the decisions on many important issues such as the hudud laws amendment bill\u00a0 which PAS and UMNO intended to push through in the Parliament. However, the bill was\u00a0 withdrew under strong objection from Sarawak. If Sarawak can win all the 31 parliamentary seats, Sarawak can play an important roles in the Parliament. It also gives additional weight to Sarawak in its negotiation with the Federal Government in getting back its autonom<\/p>\n
Therefore the GE14 is very important to Sarawak.\u00a0 Whether Sarawak\u00a0 can\u00a0 get back its autonomy depends very much on the results of GE14. A poor\u00a0 results would reduce the power of representation and its voice in the Parliament. The poor results may also affect the negotiation between Sarawak and the Federal Government on Sarawak\u2019s autonomy.<\/p>\n
We must be very clear that a magnificent results in the GE14 would enable Sarawak to get back its rights and autonomy for our next generations. We as the forerunners must build a stronger\u00a0 Sarawak\u00a0 for them.<\/p>\n
SUPP calls on all voters to continue to give their strong backing to SUPP in the coming GE14\u00a0 for a stronger Sarawak representation in the parliament.<\/p>\n
