{"id":19572,"date":"2017-09-29T14:31:05","date_gmt":"2017-09-29T06:31:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=19572"},"modified":"2017-09-29T17:23:57","modified_gmt":"2017-09-29T09:23:57","slug":"estonia-a-good-model-for-sarawaks-plan-to-digitise-its-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/?p=19572","title":{"rendered":"Estonia a good model for Sarawak\u2019s plan to digitise its economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Estonia would be a good model for Sarawak\u2019s statewide multimedia and communication infrastructure development as part of the overall plan to digitise the state\u2019s economy, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.<\/p>\n<p>Abang Johari, who was on his first day of a study visit to Estonia, said the Baltic country\u2019s model offered a workable solution for Sarawak in order to be able to provide fast Internet speeds and penetration crucial for the development of a digital economy.<\/p>\n<p>He made these comments after visiting the Estonia e-Government Academy (eGA), where he and his delegation were briefed on various aspects of Estonian e-government initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Abang Johari said another aspect worth considering is provision of underground fibre optic network ducts along public roads in Estonia, which made 4G internet services easily available in all parts of the country where more businesses of all sizes are migrating to the digital transaction platform.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was particularly impressed with Estonia\u2019s e-payment system, which has permeated into most aspects of the country\u2019s commercial, business and public service transactions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope we can collaborate with Estonia in developing a similar to-be-launched e-payment platform in Sarawak called Sarawakpay,\u201d said Abang Johari.<\/p>\n<p>He also expressed the state\u2019s interest to cooperate with Estonia on research and development leveraging on its vast wealth in biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the delegation were Sarawak Information System (Sains) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and Honorary Consul of Estonia in Malaysia, Col Datuk Harbans Singh.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/unnamed21.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-19573\" alt=\"unnamed\" src=\"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/unnamed21.jpg\" width=\"1080\" height=\"607\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/unnamed21.jpg 1080w, http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/unnamed21-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.suppnewsportal.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/unnamed21-1024x575.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Estonia would be a good model for Sarawak\u2019s statewide multimedia and communication infrastructure development as part of the overall plan to digitise the state\u2019s economy, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
