Sarawak United People\u2019s Party (SUPP) President, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian\u00a0remains firm on its principle of not supporting the idea of having direct candidates contesting on behalf of Barisan Nasional (BN), for the upcoming Pujut state seat by-election<\/p>\n
Dr. Sim who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister, said SUPP will not\u00a0support BN\u2019s direct candidate, because whoever the BN direct candidate is, he has to resign (from his current party), so might as well join SUPP and maintain our BN spirit and principles.<\/p>\n
In the last state election, direct candidates were chosen\u00a0between SUPP, United People\u2019s Party (UPP), and Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) \u00a0and \u00a0Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras).\u00a0 BN direct candidates were from UPP and Teras, which are not part of the ruling coalition.<\/p>\n
Sim said SUPP would leave the matter of candidate selection to the BN leaders, adding that\u00a0he had submitted a few names to Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg for consideration.<\/p>\n
The Election Commission had set June 20 as nomination day and July 4 for polling.<\/p>\n
