On May 19, the Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah announced that polling for the Pujut by-election would be\u00a0July 4, with\u00a0nomination\u00a0on June 20.\u00a0The by-election follows the disqualification of Pujut \u00a0assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon from the DAP by the State Legislative Assembly on May 12.<\/p>\n
Dr Ting, who won the seat with a majority of 1,759 votes during the May 2016 state election. He was challenged by Datuk Hii King Chion (direct BN candidate), Jofri Jaraiee (PAS) and Fong Pau Teck (Independent).<\/p>\n
SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian was also present with Abang Johari during the launch of a Ramadan bazaar here yesterday. He, however, was silent on the subject (by-election).<\/p>\n
